Rules
You have 5 dice and up to 3 throws per turn. You must collect, in this order:
- Ship - a 6.
- Captain - a 5 (only after the Ship is set aside).
- Crew - a 4 (only after the Captain is set aside).
Each one, once collected, is locked away. Any extras of the same face stay free.
Once Ship + Captain + Crew are all set aside, the remaining 2 dice are your cargo - sum them for your score. Stop and bank, or push for a higher cargo with another throw.
If you don’t collect Ship + Captain + Crew within 3 throws, the turn scores 0.
Highest cumulative cargo over 3 rounds wins.
History
Ship, Captain, Crew (also “Ship, Captain, and Crew” or “Mexico” in some traditions) is a 19th-century bar-dice game still played in pubs and at cookouts. It’s pure-luck for collecting the chain, with a single real decision per turn: stop with the cargo you have, or risk it for a higher sum.
Average expected cargo when all three slots are filled is about 7 (two d6s). The bot here re-rolls cargo while it’s below 8.
